From Mr. J. Medeiros
My last Facebook post for a few weeks, but please read!
Just a quick "Thank You!", info on the album, my other projects, and maybe some personal stuff.
1) CAMPAIGN NEWS: Finally, my campaign is done! No more posts, tweets, or emails about it. If you were tired of seeing them, I don't blame you, but imagine having to write them for 60 days straight. I am def over myself. Yes, happy to know there is a point at which my "self-absorbtion valve" breaks.
That said, in a two month campaign to reach 15$ to cover recording and manufacturing costs, I hit 27,085$.
Both my wife and I are a little stunned. To some artists this may not be a lot, but for me and my family this is a big deal, and we appreciate it greatly! As I stated earlier I was planing on exiting out of this name, Mr. J. Medeiros, on this campaign- but the support here really has me thinking.
So grateful to those of you who took time and money out of your life to give to mine, I hope this new album will give to you an equal share in musical form. I'm also grateful to those of you who couldn't support financially but did so in spirit, promotion, and with kind words- thank you!
BUT, let's not get too charitable, this was not a fund raiser of that sort- I def plan on working hard to create the value you already gave!
It does take a lot of time and money to create some of the perks we offered and I hope you see that they were well priced- considering.
I say all this to show us as equal partners in this endeavor.
15k is easily swallowed up by production, recording, mixing, mastering, manufacturing, packaging, and shipping costs- but the rest? I mean, what to do with the remaining 12k?
Well, DON'T WORRY, it's not enough to be "rich and famous", I won't go buy a car, a necklace, leather pillows, Kanye's sneakers, etc. It's also not enough to tempt me to switch my rap-style up haha. As ridiculous and out of place as this should sound, there are those Hip Hop conspiracy theorists who see any level of success for an "underground rapper" as threatening. Don't worry, you!
No, 12k is much more valuable than all of that!!!
Well, like I said in my campaign pitch- this album is truly about music, you, and my family. I will not be dumping this money into promoting the album, hiring a publicist, buying ad space, or on any press packets, stickers, shipping product for free to beg indie radio, distributors, labels, and media outlets to push my music, no, no, and double no.
With a baby on the way and an album to make, knowing I have a little money in the bank, um- for the first time in a long time, is a great feeling- money that will be used as paid maternity leave for my wife and I, money that will be used to hopefully give me some mental room to create music!
I say hopefully because I know life is crazy and unpredictable- which leads me to this... all prayers and good thoughts are welcome, this pregnancy has definitely proven there is a certain anxiety no money can alleviate. For the anxieties it can... I say...
CAMPAIGN FULFILLMENT: Everyone who ordered from my campaign will get a follow up email late in September. We will be contacting you to make sure all your information is correct and if needed at that time we will get your t-shirt size, perk combo choices, lyric sheet choice, confirmation of name and spelling for vinyl, cd, and truck artwork, schedule Skype conversations, and more... basically every question you have right now, will be answered (as far as GoGo is concerned ha).
Album is expected to send Jan. 15, 2015, though it might, might, might, be a little bit later- I'll be sure to get you every piece of merch ASAP. SIDE NOTE: Drum packages will be coming a lot sooner!
You MUST read the mail we send to the email address associated with your Go Go order!
2) MUSIC NEWS: I'm not retiring, I hope ha! Though this may be my last album as Mr. J. Medeiros (I say "may" after seeing the support for my career- thank you), I hope it is not my last as a rapper!
This is my career, my trade, my job- and pretty much all I've been doing since '98, it's not like I have a "Plan B" ha, or a desire for one.
I am working in a new group with French super producer 20Syl! It's called AllttA and we are about 8 songs deep! I flew to Nantes, France this summer and spent about a week recording material- so I have an idea of what it sounds like... and I'm REALLY EXCITED FOR IT! Don't assume you know my style, 20Syl really challenged me to seek new lyrical grounds- I hope you can hear it!
We MAY be releasing music this year, soon! So keep an ear and eye out for it!
You can follow on twitter at @allttamusic or on Facebook at AllttA
and I don't know how people miss this, but you can always keep up with everything I and The Procussions are doing by signing up for our mailing list! Peep the App section on my Facebook page.
I got with guitarist Tim Stewart (4th Ave Jones, Rhianna, Miguel, Suicidal Tendencies), bassist Ricky Tillo ( Esthero, Divine Brown, Saukrates), and drummer George "Spanky" McCurdy (Justin Timberlake, Kanye, Q-Tip) and we all formed a band called, "Knives".
Some of you will NOT like this music, some of you will see- as far as rock is concerned, it's not like anything that you've ever heard.
I am very excited at what we've done so far, we are two songs deep, and the soundscapes are CRAZY! Maybe Mars Volta, RATM, meets... something you've never heard before.
In fact, no, I wouldn't compare this sound just yet... too soon.
Tim, Ricky, and Spanky have been the touring band for Lady GaGa for some time now, so recording has been off and on. We plan on having an EP down by December. I hope, I hope, I hope!

but, if you're not a fan of really, really, hard music- you might not enjoy it.
I have talked with Stro Elliot and we def have some plans for a new album- possibly mid 2015. I hope!
